Eating and DrinkingIt has been said that Britain is a country where the best food is made at home and yet, in recent years, some of the principles of home cooking have been adopted by a new generation of chefs proud to be British. Local chef Robert Rees points to the success of Farmers Markets and interest in local foods. Old Spot bacon, Bibury trout, Cerney Ash goats cheese and Blaisdon Red plums – look for local specialities and you won’t be disappointed.
Obviously, you can dine well anywhere in the world at top dollar, but in the Cotswolds the real revolution has been in the quality of food that you find in more humble pubs and farm shops. And speaking of pubs, surely this is England’s most favoured area, with historic Cotswold stone Inns and traditional beers such as Jouster or Donnington Ale to choose from.
Remember to include at least one traditional afternoon tea in your itinerary – it’s really jolly good!
