Fabulous local produce, award winning restaurants & creative chefs all make eating and drinking in the Cotswolds a truly memorable experience.
Cotswold foodie events ta
ke place on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis around the Cotswolds, supported by some enterprising farm shops and farmers markets.
Where to start?
Use our food & drink finder on the right for places to eat in the Cotswolds, eating and drinking in the Cotswolds and good food in the Cotswolds.
Pick up a copy of the 'Good Pub Guide' and you'll see that the Cotswolds area has more than its fair share of pubs listed in comparison with other parts of the country. The word that crops up again and again is 'proper' - a reference to solid Cotswold stone pubs that may well have been the focus of village life for hundreds of years.
The other notable feature of Cotswold pubs are the quality of dining pubs, although you will never feel out of place if visiting just for a drink. Meanwhile, our pubs are leading the charge on local food and drink, keeping up with the local Cotswold farmers market movement that is raising awareness of local delicacies such as Old Spot pork, Blaisdon Red plums, trout, Tewkesbury mustard, Gloucester sausages and, especially, cheeses. With over 100 Cotswold cheeses on offer the variety is excellent.
The restaurant scene is healthy too, with established Michelin starred addresses in Cheltenham at Le Champignon Sauvage and 5 North Street in Winchcombe. In January 2009, Lords of the Manor was awarded a well-deserved Michelin star and newcomer The Royal Well Tavern (Cheltenham) picked up a Bib Gourmand - an award indicating that the restaurant offers good food at moderate prices. Other Bib Gourmands went to The Plough at Kingham and the Cafe at Daylesford Farm Shop.
A visit to Gloucester Cathedral isn't complete without trying the new Pilgrim's Pie - or Monk's Pie for vegetarians. Find out more about them here.
We think you'll like our Pudding of the Month - a new recipe from The Pudding Club every month. The Pudding Club was founded at the Three Ways House Hotel in 1985 to prevent the demise of the great British Pudding - help to celebrate their 25th anniversary by making your own pudding!
Finally, an honourable mention for our Cotswold tea rooms which we're proud of - especially Juri's in Winchcombe, which was named Best in Britain 2008 by the British Tea Council.
