Cotswolds Walking

Few areas of Britain are covered with as many walking trails as the Cotswolds. Cotswold walking trails lead along Roman routes, ancient salt ways and through medieval villages.

As with cycling, Cotswolds walking benefits from gentle hillsides, pubs and plenty of top quality accommodation.

The star long-distance Cotswold walking route is the Cotswold Way (Bath to Chipping Campden) - at just over 100 miles (160km) - and there are other options such as the Thames Path (the source of the Thames is in the Cotswolds). There are a number of companies offering organised tours, check our Tours & Group Travel page for details.

There are many guides available featuring Cotswold walking trails, contact Tourist Information Centres to buy a copy.

Take a look at our favourite Cotswold walks and find information on public transport timetables.

Tips for walkers in the Cotswolds:

- Plan your journey, and tell somebody your intentions.
- Obtain a local weather forecast.
- Check that you have the necessary maps.
- Carry a compass and know how to use it.
- Carry a torch if you are likely to return late.
- Wear stout, waterproof footwear with a coarse tread.
- Wear warm clothing and carry waterproofs in case of rain.
- Carry refreshments to avoid dehydration.
- Carry a small first aid kit and personal identification in case of accident.
- Take some money with you for refreshments or transport.
- Get to know the Countryside Code and follow its advice.
