Cotswold Gardens, England's pride and joy have over 30 open to the public and many more opening under various charity Open Garden schemes.
Our inside tip is to look out for village fetes where the big house often opens for the day and you can see a private garden and buy plants at a fraction of garden centre prices.
Cotswold gardens are a year round attraction in some cases with Westonbirt Arboretum, a UK treasure and Batsford Arboretum a delight to visit whatever the season.
For those looking for a more exotic garden Sezincote House offers oriental water gardens with an unusual Indian style Regency house, or Painswick Rococo Gardens has formal vistas with winding woodland walks and more natural planting, as well as flamboyant and frivolous features and buildings.
For traditionalists Cerney House Gardens is a classic, romantic Victorian secret garden, while Bourton House Garden is an exciting 3-acre garden positively bursting with flamboyant borders, imaginative topiary and profusions of herbaceous borders.
