Sue Brown is a printmaker whose work is inspired by animals, birds and nature, and is rich in colour, pattern and texture. She studied etching to degree level in the late 1970s at Bristol. In 1996 she added collographs to her portfolio of work after discovering this printmaking technique being taught at the Steiner School near Gloucester. The process involves making a collage, sealing the surface with varnish, then inking and printing the plate with an etching press. The technique provides intaglio prints with deeply textural surfaces.
Sue's attitude to her work is summed up by the following paraphrased quote by Miro, “For me, printmaking is a major means of expression. It has been a means of liberation, expansion and discovery”.
