Annual street fair and lots of entertainments for the whole family.
The Tewkesbury Fair Society tell us that farm workers, labourers, servants and some craftsmen would work for their employer from October to October. At the end of the employment they would attend the Mop Fair dressed in their Sunday best clothes and carrying an item signifying their trade. A servant with no particular skills would carry a mop head – hence the phrase Mop Fair. The Mop Fair traditionally takes place at the end of the harvest, with only a small number of towns still holding the event - ‘Mop towns'.
Although the fair is no longer a place to find employment, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained, including rides, games and snack stands.
Official opening by the Mayor of Tewkesbury. Some streets will be closed on the 9th and 10th of October but there will be sign posts to redirect you. All streets will re-open on the 11th of October.
The children’s rides get turned on at approximately 2.30/3pm on both days and other rides are on from approximately 6pm until around 10.30pm.
