About
The name Combe, meaning valley, seems inappropriate for a village set on a hill top 45m above Evenlode valley floor! The village may have moved away from an earlier site down on the valley floor.
The village is on the edge of the Blenheim Palace estate and has a large village green with its village pub, The Cock Inn, looking out over it.
On the edge of the village, in a beautiful riverside setting, isCombe Mill, once the saw mill and workshop for the Blenheim Palace Estate. Now open as a heritage centre with monthly steaming days throughout the summer, when all the wonderful old machinery hums into action, giving an idea of the bustling site this once was.
