The market town of Stroud, in the south Cotswolds, has earned itself a well-deserved reputation for its range of independent shops, selling everything from fossils to fairies and vintage to vinyl. All set against the backdrop of the beautiful Five Valleys.
MSN recently picked Stroud as one of the top ten must-visit places to search out vintage treasures. It has certainly become a mecca for unearthing vintage finds. To find out more about vintage shopping in Stroud, pick up a Vintage Map from one of the vintage shops.
In the heart of town, amongst a variety of shops and cafes, you’ll find three dedicated vintage clothing stores, three second-hand book shops, five antique/second-hand furniture shops and two record shops selling vinyl. There are also some great independent clothing, jewellery, homeware and gift shops.
Not only all this, but every Friday and Saturday, the Shambles Market is open for business and great for browsing vintage jewellery, crafts and second-hand books.
Visit at the weekend and Stroud’s award-winning Saturday Farmers’ Market, and the newly reintroduced Sunday Market (first Sunday of the month) create a real buzz in this bohemian town.
To recharge your shopping batteries, you’ll find over 20 cafes, many of them independent, including Britain’s first organic cafe.
