Travel back to a bygone age when transport looked very different from today!

The Oxford Bus Museum is an amazing collection of nearly forty historically important buses, coaches and trams as well as fifty 19th century bicycles and twenty Morris vehicles designed by William Morris.  

Your visit includes an introduction over tea or coffee on arrival and a guided tour of some of the many historic vehicles which chart the history of road transport in Oxfordshire over the last two hundred years – including a horse-drawn tram dating back to 1881 and several penny farthing bicycles!

The viewing gallery gives the perfect opportunity to watch volunteers restoring the latest additions to the collection or you can spend your time wandering through uniforms, models, old petrol pumps, ticket machines and a collection of photographs charting public transport in years gone by.

Discover how transport has become more comfortable and luxurious by taking a trip on a vintage bus – complete with 1950s uniformed driver and conductor and take home your own copy of the ‘Book of Oxford Buses and Trams’ to keep as a memento of your visit.

The museum is run by volunteers.  There is a café, shop and toilets.

 

Booking

Price: £35 per person. 

Duration: 3 hours. Shorter experiences are available, please contact for details.

Capacity: Minimum of 4 people and maximum of 50 people.

Opening: Open Sundays and Wednesdays all year round and most Bank Holidays and Saturdays in July and August from 10.30am to 4.30pm.  Closed 19th – 31st December 2019. Bus rides available on 2nd and 16th June, 7th and 21st July, 4th and 18th August, 14th and 15th September, 30th and 31st October, 8th and 15th December 2019, and 1 January 2020.

Facilities

Language: English only. Guests will need a basic knowledge of English to fully appreciate the experience.

Parking: There is free car parking on site with a large car park within 100 yards – fee payable upto £4 a day. Coaches and buses can be accommodated, with advance notice.

Pick-up service: Pick ups and onward transport on a vintage bus can be provided for parties of over thirty given good notice.

Transportation: Hanborough Station has hourly trains to and from London Paddington, Reading, Oxford, Evesham, Worcester. Stagecoach bus 233 runs every 30 minutes on Monday – Saturday from Witney, Burford and Woodstock. (Parties over 12 should notify Witney bus garage on 01865 772250 in advance).

Accessibility: The only area not accessible by wheelchair is the bicycle collection. Although the viewing gallery is also inaccessible, a volunteer will show wheelchair visitors the workshop on the ground floor, subject to health and safety considerations.

Special requirements: This is an all-weather experience.
