About
Explore the Cotswolds links with Roman Britain on this half day experience which begins with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Corinium Museum’s archaeological stores in Northleach.
Here you’ll lose yourself in the collection of objects, some of which you’ll recognise from your childhood - others from the ancient past and more mysterious. Your visit allows you to discover what happens to the archaeology that comes in to the Museum, how it is recorded, cared for and stored.
From here you’ll journey to the heart of the Cotswolds – Cirencester – which was Roman Britain’s second largest city. You’ll be greeted with a delicious cream tea provided by the lovely Jacks Café before a tour of the award-winning Corinium Museum where you’ll be given a brief talk about the Museum highlights in the brand new discovery centre.
You can then explore the beautiful open galleries at your leisure discovering archaeology of the Cotswolds from Prehistory to the 19th century with many treasures from Cirencester itself.
Highlights include the amazing work of Prehistoric metal smiths, marvellous Roman mosaics and artefacts, a chance to come face to face with the Anglo Saxons and their beautiful buried treasures and the impressive medieval sculpture and wealth of the wool trade.
A chance to experience the rich history and archaeology of the Cotswolds area.
