At the very heart of The Painswick is the cool 45 seat restaurant complete with parquet-floor, teal leather chairs and unrivalled views across the Painswick Valley.
Unfussy modern cooking follows the seasons and is championed by Head Chef Jamie McCallum, who prior to joining The Painswick worked at several top restaurants including Gary Rhodes at Rhodes 24 as Senior Sous Chef, as well as Head Chef at the Michelin starred Wild Honey with Anthony Demetre. Jamie also gained experience working at the world-renowned Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island, Australia and for Waitrose Cookery school, creating recipes and teaching classes.
Jamie has created imaginative menus, based around a ‘contemporary contradiction’, using fresh local ingredients that pack plenty of flavour and punch.
The Painswick is a classic countryside escape: roaring fireplaces, wellies to borrow and delicious feasts awaiting after a day’s country rambling. The historic main house has all the squashy sofas, roll-top baths, and eaves bedrooms to give it character to compete with the surrounding Painswick Valley.
Boutique and unique, The Painswick is part of The Calcot Collection and serves up serious style with substance and superb service. Guests can expect a warm welcome, sumptuous spas, immersive experiences, beautiful bedrooms, fantastic food and the very best of British from North to South. The Calcot Collection encompasses The Village Pub, Barnsley House, Calcot & Spa and The Painswick in the Cotswolds and The Lord Crewe Arms in Blanchland, Northumberland.
