About
Kemble lies four miles from Cirencester. In a meadow known as Trewsbury Mead, this village is the settlement closest to Thames Head, traditionally identified as the source of the River Thames which runs all the way to London.
Passengers arriving by rail will find a pretty railway station built in 1882 and now a listed building. Kemble station is on the main line from London Paddington so a popular railway link to the nearby Capital town in the Cotswolds Cirencester.
Set in the heart of the village the spire of All Saints' Church Kemble can be seen for miles around.
A stone church was erected consisting of a nave, south aisle, chancel and western tower between 1100 and 1250. The south porch was built by William de Collerne, Abbot of Malmesbury, in 1280.
In 1823 the church and spire were severely damaged by lightning and was not in use for a period before part of the church was rebuilt in 1872-73 and the spire restored in 1964.
Kemble has a school , village hall, village shop and pub called The Tavern all located in this thriving village community.
Nearby you will find The Wild Duck at Ewen and The Thames Head Inn.
Cotswold Airport (previously called Kemble Airfield) is just over a mile from the village, and once hosted the RAF Red Arrows aerobatic display team. The airport is now a thriving airfield used by aviation businesses, events and a range of businesses including the airports on site restaurant called AV8 where you can sit out on the terrace and observe the runway.
A bit further away you will find Aston Down airfield, previously belonging to the RAF but is now used for gliding by the Cotswold Gliding Club.
With the Cotswold Water Park area and its 150 lakes nearby, the area has a wide range of activities and attractions to visit. You can relax at Cotswolds country Park and beach, take to the water for a range of watersports or discover art set outside in the Cotswold Sculpture Park. For history lovers then visit Rodmarton Manor and garden or Chavenage House located near Tetbury.
