4.8 miles/7.8km - GRADE - EASY - A short easy route designed to allow time to travel to Stroud, prepare and perhaps explore a little before embarking on your cycle holiday. Attractions that you could see in Stroud include; the Stroud Farmers Market (Saturday Mornings), Shambles Market (Friday and Saturdays), Stratford Park & Museum in the Park (FREE entry), Cotswolds Canal Visitor Centre, Stroud Tourist Information Centre/Subcription Rooms, Cotswolds Playhouse, The Landsdown Hall & Gallery, Stroud Valleys Art Space and the Apollo Cinema.
The route is mainly on the Cycle Path and traffic free, formed from the old Stroud/Nailsworth Railway line, fantastic if you just wanted a family day out with a stop in Nailsworth for lunch or a coffee, which is renowned for its award-winning restaurants, pubs, cafes and other food outlets including a celebrated local bakery (home to The Fabulous Baker Brothers) and food emporium, aswell as some lovely, small independent shops. There is a mill trail and Nailsworth has the largest number of working water wheels per square mile in the country.
