30 miles/47km – GRADE – FIRST TWO THIRDS EASY, FINAL THIRD STRENUOUS - A ride in two parts, the first two thirds an easy flat ride through the Severn Vale along quiet country lanes and the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. The second half graded strenuous as you ascend the Cotswold escarpment and into the historic wool town of Painswick. ‘The Queen of the Cotswolds’.
Attractions that you can see en route include; Purton Boat Graveyard, Slimbridge Wildlife and Wetlands Trust, Frampton on Severn Village Green (Largest in England), St Augustine’s Farm, Arlingham, Painswick Beacon, Prinknash Bird Park, Painswick Rococco Gardens, Painswick Churchyard Yew Trees. This ride covers a variety of terrains from the gentler slopes of the Severn Vale, to the sharper escarpments of the Cotswolds Hills. This route takes you along country lanes, canal sides and some traffic-free routes. You will end up in the historic wool town which is known as ‘The Queen of the Cotswolds’ and is one of the finest and best-preserved Cotswolds settlements. This small town has become well-known for its award-winning hotels and inns, specialist craft and antique shops and its summer Arts Festival.
