A hilly route from start to finish taking you through the rolling Cotswold hills and capturing the essence of the Cotswolds countryside. The route follows mainly quiet lanes, and has some strenuous climbs and steep descents. Low gears and good breaks required and an awareness of oncoming traffic around the lanes of minimal diameter.
Attractions you can see en route include; Painswick Rococco Gardens, Stocks, fine churchyard in Painswick and Miserden Park Gardens.
You will start up in Painswick a historic wool town which is known as ‘The Queen of the Cotswolds’ and is one of the finest and best-preserved Cotswolds settlements. This small town has become well-known for its award-winning hotels and inns, specialist craft and antique shops and its summer Arts Festival. After passing through the beautiful village of Sheepscombe known as one of the loveliest imaginable locations, and surrounded by beech wood hills and flower rich grassland, you will come across Miserden. Laurie Lee’s Cider with Rosie was brought to life in a BBC1 drama, while Laurie Lee grew up in the village of Slad near Stroud, most of the drama was filmed in and around the beautiful nearby village of Miserden.
