About
A traditional village pub with great connectivity to the M4, M40 and A34 in the picturesque village of Blewbury. Under new ownership,The Red Lion has at last broken free from the clutches of it’s brewery landlord. Now undergoing a revival, attracting a healthy following of locals as well as reuniting families and friends from further afield. A newly resurfaced resin bonded gravel carpark makes for an impressive arrival. Whatever the mode of transport; walkers, cyclists, horse riders, mobility scooters, motor enthusiasts are all offered a friendly welcome for a fun relaxing time.
This well kept secret, with it’s own chalk stream overlooks open fields and thatched listed dwellings beyond. A dog and children friendly pub garden offers a selection of garden games and a dynamic stretch tent provides a generous covered space for all year dining.
The garden kitchen produces simple good quality food. Small dishes include tempura prawns, halloumi fries and sticky sausages. Larger house favourites include a Lionsden gourmet burger, ribeye fine cut steak, beer battered fish and chips as well as a Sunday roast.
Traditional cask and keg beer is served from a new intercooled cellar system for guest ales from local breweries such as Rebellion (Marlow), Loose Cannon (Abingdon), Uley (Stroud) to compliment Brakspear’s ‘Boys’ Gravity. An ever growing wine list includes a finer collection of magnums.
Popular for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and team building workshops, the pub also hosts wine tasting, quiz nights, live music, sports events on garden screen and most notably, a monthly ‘open mic’ evening of music and prose to inspire new talent.
With a blend of old and new collectives comprising artwork and memorabilia, the pub is undergoing a makeover, as well as ensuite bedrooms dressed to a standard in keeping with an award winning Chelsea development by the same owners.
