Shilton - Holy Rood Church
Humble and unadorned, Shilton's Church of the Holy Rood stands on a slope above the village. The church has a restored Norman nave with an arcade of three pillars supported on stout Norman columns, some with (probably 12th century) painted red chevrons on them.
There is a beautiful, square Norman font, which seems to have been recut in the 14th century with high relief carvings depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ. It is said, that it was hidden during the Civil War and saved from defacement by Cromwellian troops.
