Bladon - St Martin's Church

The parish of Bladon covers Blenheim Palace and is therefore the burial place of many of the Spencer Churchills - only the Dukes and Duchesses are buried in the chapel at Blenheim Palace. The most famous grave is that of Sir Winston Churchill, who chose to be buried here. His wife Clementine was, after her own death 12 years later, buried beside him.

There is known to have been a church here since at least 1086 (recorded as Blade in The Domesday Book), though the present church is essentially late 19th century. The clock in the tower commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.
