About
Beer isn’t just for drinking – you can cook with it too. On this five hour Bespoke Brewery & Cooking Experience in Longhope and Mitcheldean in the Forest of Dean, you’ll learn how beer enhances the flavour of food, tour the brew house and discover its fascinating history – and sup some refreshing beer, of course.
The trip starts at Harts Barn Cookery School, Longhope. After a welcome drink, guests will be given aprons and a short Health & Safety talk, before the cookery class starts, with both demonstrations and hands-on experience using selected artisan beers created by the Bespoke Brewery.
Featured dishes will include beer bread made using Running the Gauntlet (a full-flavoured bitter); a venison and ale stew using local venison and Money for Old Rope (a strong, fruity ale); and beer cheese crackers using Saved by the Bell (a light, hoppy bitter), served with scrumptious local – and world famous cheeses: Hereford Hop, Stinking Bishop and Double Gloucester. Washing up is done by the Kitchen Assistant on duty, so guests can concentrate on feasting on all these delicious dishes in Harts Barn’s dining venue, The Apple Barn.
Next, you will head for Mitcheldean and Bespoke Brewery’s historic Wintles brewery site to hear about the brewing process and what makes British beer taste so good, tour the brew house and the beer emporium, and of course enjoy both a free pint and a taster of each beer in the on-site pub, The Brewery Tap. You will also learn how – and why - the artisan beers got those rather unusual names.

Harts Barn Cookery School
The Cookery School is 8 years old and in that time has won 4 awards, been featured on television, national and international magazines including Food & Travel and has been acknowledged for its ‘Cooking for All’ ethos.
The Cookery School is located on an historic site, once the Duke of Normandy’s hunting lodge. It is a stunning location with outstanding views across the Forest of Dean.
The venue has a beamed dining area called the Apple Barn (the site is surrounded by heritage orchards) with a licensed bar serving local beer, cider, perry and other drinks.
The cookery school is open in all weather and if the sun is shining there is a courtyard with a stunning view, fire pit, pizza oven, herb garden and seating area for outdoor dining.
The rest of the site has quirky little shops where customers can visit after their experience at the cookery school.
